THE PLOT

During the legendary Dangerous World Tour, Michael Jackson and his dancers are rehearsing. It was also during this tour that MJ encounters a journalist named Rachel who will interview him about the tour. What’s seemingly an interview to promote the tour became a compelling questions and answer about MJ’s life. During this recap of his life’s most vital moments, scenes play out featuring Little Michael and Teen Michael. The superstar was not afraid to share some incredible and not so awesome moments from his childhood. This in depth interview started to concern MJ’s manager Rob who stopped the interview from continuing. However, Rachel finds ways to see MJ again to continue the interview.

CREATIVE TEAM & CAST

MJ The Musical features a storyline by Pulitzer Prize winning writer Lynn Nottage with direction and choreography from Christopher Wheeldon. The show’s musical supervision, arrangement and orchestration was spearheaded by Tony and Grammy nominee David Holcenberg. Meanwhile, the production featured a superb team of outstanding designers, including Tony winner Derek McLane on scenic design, Tony winner Natasha Katz on lighting, Paul Tazewell on costume, Tony winner Gareth Owen on sound, and Peter Nigrini on projection.

After its Broadway premiere in 2021, MJ The Musical received a ton of incredible prestigious accolades. The Broadway production received a total of ten Tony nominations and won four awards, including Best Choreography, Best Lighting, and Best Sound Design of a Musical. Over at the Drama Desk Awards, MJ the Musical won three awards out of 7 nominations, including bagging the award for Outstanding Orchestrations. Meanwhile, the Outer Critics Circle Award gave the musical seven nominations including the award for Outstanding Choreography.
